10 Best Rock Music Videos Of The 2010s
9. Los Ageless - St. Vincent
The premise for St. Vincent's 2017 single Los Ageless lends itself perfectly to the music video format.
The song is a takedown of all things Hollywood and the toxic culture of fame and fortune. Let's just breeze past the fact that St. Vincent herself is a product of this culture - hypocrisy doesn't really exist in art, after all.
To demonstrate this, St. Vincent gives us several disturbing scenarios for us to sink our teeth into. These include a woman shredding the word "No" on a piece of paper, getting absorbed by a mysterious green goo, and having plastic surgery.
All of this is done with a smile and wink, as if to say "honestly, this is fine" whilst also screaming for somebody to come and help.
The video's action all takes place against a selection of pastel backdrops, beautifully displaying the contrast between celebrity's glitzy exterior and the horrors that lie within.
Is this a particularly original concept? Absolutely not - skewering the entertainment industry has existed almost as long as the business itself.
Is it done is a visually striking way akin to the artist's own style? You betcha.
