10 Best Rock Power Trios
2. Nirvana
Coming from the rainy city of Seattle, no one expected Nirvana to take over the world with their music. Out of all the bands in the local scene, Nirvana was never intended to be the biggest band in the world but rather to play the most visceral rock music they knew how. But life has other plans sometimes...
Even with the band's more caustic sound, Kurt Cobain's melodic sensibilities made each song a scorcher like the hook of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Come As You Are." Krist Novoselic was also one of the most underrated bass players of the 90's, as his lines would be incredibly off-kilter while always playing with the tune's structure.
Nirvana was not really the juggernaut they were until they got Dave Grohl, whose drumming style was absolutely thunderous while serving each song the band tackled. Even if a song like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is wonderfully arranged from a melodic standpoint, it doesn't have its true power until Grohl blasts your ears out with his drum entrance.
All these musicians were naturally gifted at their talents, but bringing those elements into one package turned their partnership into a living being as the Pioneers of Alt-Rock.
