10 Best Singles From The Golden Age Of Punk

7. Another Girl, Another Planet - The Only Ones

'Another Girl, Another Planet' was the second single for The Only Ones, following up on 'Lovers Of Today' which was released in 1977. Of course, it is by far their best-known track and a timeless rock classic regardless of genre. When it came out in 1978 it was unlike anything that had been released by any of their contemporaries, mixing melodicism, attitude and an unforgettable tune, aided by the masterful guitar lines of unsung punk axe hero John Perry.

It is now one of the staples of every punk compilation album and has featured in numerous film soundtracks. It's ongoing success even led to the band temporarily reforming in 2007 on the back of renewed interest due to the song being used in a Vodafone ad in 2006 and the resultant interest in the band.

The band's three albums offer plenty of reward for further investigation for those whose interest has been piqued by 'Another Girl', and although the band are no longer active as a unit, guitarist Perry and singer Peter Perrett have worked on a number of interesting solo projects in the past few years.
