10 Best Soft Rock Albums Of All Time

9. London Town - Paul McCartney And Wings

Everyone who's ever lived through the '70s has remembered the term yacht rock being thrown out recently. You listen to these songs, and you can immediately picture the 30 something man in a Hawaiian shirt sipping a cocktail while he lounges by the pool, all while singing along to the likes of Rupert Holmes or something. Though Paul McCartney was never really a part of that club, he does get at least some points by actually recording an album on a yacht.

After going through another severe lineup change with Wings, the band was down to Paul, Linda, and Denny Laine to create their next full length, coming up with one of the softest offerings of the band's career. You can definitely hear the energy of the boat on some of the acoustic tracks, which often delve into old sea shanty territory. Paul's knack for writing pop melodies is still here though, even when he's using a dead simple arrangement like on I'm Carrying, which ended up being his fellow Fab George Harrison's favorite song on the record.

Just because it's softer doesn't mean it's lost its ambition though, with songs like I've Had Enough and Name and Address turning in some rock and roll chops and Morse Moose and the Grey Goose sounding like the band were trying to make some epic song a la Nineteen Hundred Eighty Five. This was probably one of the first signs that Wings weren't going to go the distance, but don't be surprised if you see one of these songs in a Guardians of the Galaxy movie or anything.
