10 Best Songs Released After The Singer Passed Away

8. Amy Winehouse – ‘Our Day Will Come’ (2011)

Amy Winehouse was taken far too soon in July 2011 at the age of only 27, from accidental alcohol poisoning.

Recorded for her 2003 debut album Frank, ‘Our Day Will Come’ (a cover of an R&B song by Ruby & The Romantics) was included on Amy’s posthumous collection/album Lioness: Hidden Treasures - made up of unreleased tracks, duets and outtakes/demos.

Salaam Remi, who helped produce Amy’s classic albums Frank and Back to Black, stated that Our Day Will Come serves as poignant reminder of her amazing talent. It's an early glimpse into when she was just starting out in her career - it was recorded when Winehouse was only 18. You can hear an inkling of the confidence she’d later develop that would eventually make her a star.

It’s a terrific track. When much of her later life was plagued with tabloid culture and personal issues, this serves as a reminder of how accomplished a singer she actually was. It has a reggae feel/beat over lyrics of young lovers in secret.

"Our day will come and we'll have everything, we'll share the joy falling in love can bring” she sings as we experience the joy of falling in love with her voice all over again.

It conjures emotions and fondness for one of the most recognizable voices in pop music.
