10 Best Songs Where Hard Rock Bands Went Acoustic
4. Mosquito Song - Queens of the Stone Age
As the '00s rock scene started to shift, Josh Homme had much more in mind for Queens of the Stone Age than just standard stoner rock. Bringing Dave Grohl into the mix behind the drums, Songs for the Deaf was supposed to be an intense ride through the California desert, with every song sounding like you're surfing the channels on some pirate radio stations. When you finally reach the end of the journey though, we get to see what the real dark side of what Joshua Tree looks like.
Though the California desert might seem like you're at the end of civilization half the time, this track taps into the more primal instincts that you get out there, with Josh singing this song as if he's just on the verge of insanity. While the main message behind the song might seem like just a mosquito biting you in the desert, the addition of a horn section gives it a dark undercurrent that's much more macabre.
Since the rest of the album was a bit seedy over songs like Do It Again and Hanging Tree, this might be the moment where you realize just how dark these guys are, camping out at Rancho De La Luna and smoking cigarettes under the light of the moon. It might seem like you're safe now, but there's also a good chance that you might be eaten alive by these guys if you're not careful.
