10 Best Thrash Metal Bands Outside Of The Big 4

6. Suicidal Tendencies

Speaking of Metallica bassists, let's talk about the current one, Robert Trujillo.

Prior to joining the Enter Sandman crew, Trujillo played with the likes of Black Label Society, Alice in Chains' Jerry Cantrell, and everyone's favourite bat-munching maniac, Ozzy Osbourne.

Before all of this, he rose to fame as the bass player for Suicidal Tendencies, a position he held for six years.

This delightfully-named band has been around since 1980, formed by head honcho and singer Mike Muir. They too are not a straight-up thrash band, as their music contains hints of hardcore punk and even funk.

In fact, they helped create the fusion genre of "crossover thrash", which is another way of saying that it's really complicated and nobody quite knows what it actually is.

Muir and friends are still going strong to this day, even after 14 albums, several member changes, and a brief hiatus in the mid-'90s. Suicidal Tendencies has become somewhat of a dynasty as, in 2021, they signed teenager Tye Trujillo, son of Robert, as their new bass player.

It all comes full circle in the end.
