10 Big Takeaways Foo Fighters: Medicine At Midnight - Album Review

9. The Stand-Out Tracks

If you're a die-hard Foo Fighters fan who fears change more than an over-worked arcade manager, then this new direction may be a bit of a shock to you. Yes there are still outstanding guitar riffs and yes your face will most definitely be melted off by some of the heavier breakdowns but keep an open mind because this marriage of dance and rock works surprisingly well. Here are some of the tracks to look out for:

Making A Fire: This opening track perfectly encapsulates what to expect from the rest of the album. It starts with a groovy drum beat, a heavy riff and some angelic gospel choir in the background. Combine that with Grohl's gravelly vocals and you have their greatest album opening track since The Pretender.

Medicine At Midnight: If you like David Bowie you're going to absolutely LOVE this homage to the Star Man. This song is clearly The Foo's way of paying tribute to Bowie's hit song Let's Dance and, I'm gonna say it, I think it's actually better to dance to.

Chasing Birds: This trippy Beatles-esque tune makes you feel like you're floating and the lyrics are a nod to the Beatles' LSD days.
