10 Biggest Breakups In Rock And Roll History

3. Eagles

Alongside the hard rock wave that was sweeping across the US in the early '70s, The Eagles were bringing a much more mellow side back into rock and roll. While not exactly hippies, their unique brand of sunshine rock offered us a lot more of a relaxing vibe that what we had gotten from the likes of Aerosmith or Led Zeppelin. Underneath all of that mellowness though was a monster waiting to be unleashed.

Often acting like a business with Glenn Frey and Don Henley at the helm, Don Felder kept getting tired of not being included as much as he would have liked, down to the band overdubbing lead vocals from Henley where he was supposed to sing. As if the backstabbing wasn't enough, an act of charity ended up destroying them when they played a benefit concert for Senator Alan Cranston, where Felder allegedly said "You're welcome...I guess" after the senator thanked him.

Seething with anger, the band made it through the show, with Frey and Felder openly threatening each other in between the songs. Instead of the slugfest that both of them were anticipating though, Felder got in his car and sped away into the night. By the time bassist Timothy B. Schmidt called Glenn to touch base later, it was clear as day. The Hotel California had claimed yet another victim.
