10 Biggest Love/Hate Albums In Rock Music History

6. Parachutes - Coldplay

At first glance, any work by the British band, Coldplay, might seem like an odd choice for this list. Since forming in London, in 1996, the group have enjoyed numerous chart hits, Grammy Awards and sales in the millions. Their debut album, 2000's Parachutes, reached number one in the UK, and certified double-platinum in the US.

With any highly successful band, there is always going to be a backlash. Those who dislike the music in question will inevitably have their annoyance multiplied when said music, and said band, seemingly appear everywhere. Even The Beatles were not immune from this effect.

Coldplay undoubtedly wielded a major influence on the popular music scene, with new band after new band echoing their sound. While many hear finely-crafted, accessible songs, however, others throw accusations of blandness, repetition and lack of innovation.

The debate surrounding Coldplay arises solely from their success. Had they remained a small-scale, fringe act, no one would be firing shots their way. Standing, as they did, atop the pop pile for many years, it was always going to happen.
