10 Biggest WTF Moments In 2020s Rock So Far

9. Dylan Sells His Catalogue

As music listening habits shifted from buying individual songs and albums to streaming them on a subscription-based platform, artists had to look to new sources of revenue in order to survive.

Then, when the pandemic came along and pretty much killed touring for a few years, they were left with even fewer options.

One way of making money was to sell your publishing rights, which is exactly what music legend and history's sexiest harmonica player Bob Dylan did in December 2020.

The rock 'n' roll legend flogged his entire back catalogue to the Universal Music Publishing Group, meaning that they had 100% control over how his music was licensed in the future.

The deal included over 600 songs and was worth anywhere between $300-$400 million. It was heralded by many as the most important music publishing deal of all time, which must have felt great for Stevie Nicks who did the exact same thing just a few days earlier.

It came as a surprise to many that a man who championed free speech for so long would choose to sell off his life's work to a big corporation.

But hey, those giant hats don't pay for themselves you know.
