10 Biggest WTF Moments In '80s Rock Music

4. John Lennon’s Assassination

If you need us to write an introduction about John Lennon, then you need to take a good long look at yourself.

The former Beatle continues to be one of the most recognisable cultural icons across the globe, even so many decades after his senseless murder in December 1980.

Lennon's killer was Mark David Chapman, an American individual who was said to be jealous of the singer's wealthy lifestyle, among other things.

He met Lennon on the 8th December and got him to sign a copy of the album Double Fantasy. Later that night, he followed John and his wife Yoko Ono to their hotel before shooting the musician four times.

News of the megastar's death quickly travelled around the world, as people everywhere tried to cope with the fact that a man who had been such a staunch advocate for peace had met such a violent end.

This is one of the biggest moments in pop culture history and would have been top of this list, had we decided not to end on such a downer.

Despite his best efforts, Chapman could not slay Lennon's legacy as one of the most important figures of recent times.
