In June 2009, the world was shocked to learn that the 'King of Pop' Michael Jackson had passed away.

Officially, the fifty-year-old singer's doctor administered a lethal dose of drugs, which ultimately resulted in cardiac arrest and Jackson's untimely demise.

Despite selling over 60 million records in his lifetime, the controversial singer reportedly owed creditors around $400 million at the time of his death.

As a result, some concluded that the megastar faked his own demise as a way to deal with the crippling debt.

A Reddit user known as 'Frankenstein,' who buys into theory, pointed out, 'There's just too many coincidences. He was too smart not to be able to work a way out of his financial problems. Dying really boosted his financial worth.'

At the time of his death, Jackson was worth around $236 million. According to Celebrity Net Worth, his estate has brought in around $1.7 billion since his passing.

Jackson would have likely needed to pay off and put his trust in a lot of people to successfully fake his own death, making it extremely unlikely — particularly given his financial situation at the time.

Still, as conspiracy theories go, there is at least a viable motive in this instance.
