10 Catchiest Rock Songs That Suck
5. This Is How You Remind Me – Nickelback (2001)
Now we're not saying Nickelback gave Canada a bad name, but... , let's just say it's a good thing they can claim Neil Young and Leonard Cohen.
It's difficult to speculate at this point, but perhaps Nickelback wouldn't be so widely hated if it wasn't for the visuals that accompanied their music. Chad Kroeger was always pensively gazing into space, just incase the audience wasn't aware that what he was singing about was 'deep'. The music video for this track was filled with 2000s music video tropes: leather pants, slow-mo walking in the rain, and super models posing as ex-girlfriends. And, the lyrics were equally as contrived.
But it's undeniable this song was catchy, with easily memorable lyrics, a hard rock chorus and a real sense of conviction from Chad Kroeger's vocal delivery. So why does this track receive such collective hate? Well, if you're going to ram a song down the throats of a populous, you're either going to force people to love it through necessity, or you'll fuel enough hate to generate a plethora of mocking internet memes some 20 years later.
This is how you remind someone just how dreadful rock music can be.
