10 Cheesiest Music Videos Of The 80s
1. Time Stand Still - Rush
Throughout most of their tenure, Rush was never what anyone really called cool. I mean, you don't get the reputation as being a band meant to cater to nerds and end up falling into trendy territory overnight. Though the Canadian power trio were able to snag a few hits in their synth period, Time Stand Still is where things got past the point of no return.
Given how 'with the times' they wanted to be with their synth choices, you can tell that they wanted to be on the cutting edge of visual effects as well. Suffice to say, Rush has just figured out how to work their brand new green screen works, and they're going to spend the next four minutes with every single effect they know how to do. This kind of mix isn't always a bad thing, but from the looks on their faces, you can tell that they think this is one of the greatest advancements in video technology.
It gets especially campy when they decide to spin Geddy Lee around in post production, which makes him look like one of those random desktop screensavers that would come across your monitor on an early '00s laptop. There's no disputing the musical pedigree at work here, but this is the kind of music video that those 'incredibly bad' countdowns on MTV were made for.
