10 Christmas Songs That Make You Want To Blow Your Brains Out

8. Merry Christmas Everyone - Shakin' Stevens (1985)

Key Lyrics Room is swaying, records playing All the songs we love to hear All I wish that everyday was Christmas What a nice way to spend the year This song first reared its ugly head in December 1985 in which it was Christmas Number One, almost single-handedly making sure that Shakin' Stevens, the 1950's gimmick borrowing rocker stays in royalties every year. The song is actually fiendishly catchy and has a high sing along factor, but unfortunately it is another case of a record being played to death. And it is another case of trying to cajole people into jollity, which fails miserably on many levels. For example, depressed people will find their mental torture turned up to agonising levels of suffering if they hear the song. Even for those who are not depressed but are not feeling particularly festive either, the song can provoke rage and hostility due to its trite lyrics and tune that sticks in your head. And snow is falling all around? That's nothing to celebrate about snow falling all around whenever you've just set foot outside the door and fallen flat on your backside.
