10 Classic Albums That Are Criminally Short
1. A Hard Day's Night - The Beatles
Throughout the '60s, the Beatles were known as one of the few bands who were able to revolutionize pop music as we knew it. Aside from their outlandish changes in genre, the entire concept of the rock album stems from what the Fab Four were able to do with the LP, whether it was the psychedelic bliss of Sgt Peppers or the amazing multi part suites that were strung together to complete Abbey Road. Long before any of that though, the first proper introduction to the Fab sound was at its most punchiest on A Hard Day's Night.
Recorded in conjunction with their first movie of the same name, this entire record captures everything fun and exciting about the moptop era of the band, putting their R&B inflections like Tell Me Why alongside rockers like You Can't Do That and Can't Buy Me Love. Even at a half hour, you can hear John Lennon and Paul McCartney coming into sharper focus with their songwriting, penning their first great ballads like If I Fell and And I Love Her.
This was also the first time that we saw the Fabs tapping into their studio wizardry for the first time, with the opening chord of the record setting the stage for the next phase of their career. Even though this could be considered the highlight of the Beatles' teenybopper period, it serves as a nice bridge between the rough and tumble group they started as and the musical innovators they would morph into later down the line.
