10 Classic Albums That Came Out Of Nowhere
1. Revolver - The Beatles
Most people familiar with the Beatles know that their music is known to go beyond love songs and moptops. Along with the Earth-shaking pop that came from the likes of Abbey Road and The White Album, the back half of the '60s rock scene practically used the Fab Four as the blueprint for how to take your music to different horizons that you didn't think were possible.
It was going to take something big to bring The Beatles past the screaming girls, but Revolver saw them emerging as some of the most creative musical forces of the modern age.
While something more creative had been brewing with the Fab Four ever since the days of Rubber Soul, this was the quantum leap that no one really saw coming. Though Rubber Soul was clearly an homage to the folk rock scene already gaining steam around this time, this nosedive into everything from classical to psychedelia left a smorgasbord of sounds for them to try out.
Aside from the standard pop rock of something like And Your Bird Can Sing, every single track on here feels like a new creative endeavour to push The Beatles further, whether it be the brash hard rock of She Said She Said and Taxman, or the stately ballads like For No One and Eleanor Rigby, or even some weird sonic textures on something like Love You To and Tomorrow Never Knows.
Even though Sgt. Pepper's may be considered the pinnacle of the Fabs' career, there's no way they could have made that leap if Revolver hadn't come first.
