10 Classic Albums That Were Originally Considered Failures

3. Pinkerton - Weezer

Most rock fans needed something like Weezer to come along in the mid '90s. After grunge died a premature death with the suicide of Kurt Cobain, these nerd rockers from California were just the pick-me-up for people who didn't want to feel sad and gloomy anymore. However, when Weezer ended up with problems of their own, they ended up dropping like flies.

With the release of Pinkerton, fans were shell-shocked at how quickly the band had fallen off. After the last album was full of pop hooks and feel good jams, who was asking the band to make something this messy and unorganized? Pinkerton actually had a spot with some of the worst albums of the decade for a while, but fans started to see something different when looking at the album out of context.

From one song to the next, Rivers Cuomo sounds like he's at the end of his rope, as he sees his hopes and dreams finally coming true, only to have them fall short of his expectations. As such, Pinkerton stands as a raw piece of Cuomo's broken heart, which was promptly stomped on by fans who didn't want the band to talk about feelings. Weezer may have been a different band after Pinkerton, but if they had kept going down this road, they may have saved themselves from idle sins like Raditude later down the line.
