10 Classic Albums With Glaring Errors

1. ...And Justice For All - Metallica

When logging Metallica’s ‘80s output, And Justice For All may stand as the heaviest album of their glory period. Though people often cite albums like Master of Puppets as the band’s best, this scathing look at the American government over powerful heavy metal has had a huge impact on the world of heavy music at large. This record certainly deserves its accolades, but there’s no forgiving the shoddy production work on this.

Going into the studio shortly after the death of bassist Cliff Burton, you can hear the pain coming through each note, as the band proceeds to deal with the enormous amount of sadness and loss.

Though the band did acquire Jason Newsted as a replacement on this album, he may as well have not appeared on it, with most of the production having his bass being nowhere in the mix.

While it’s been speculated that this production style was just another way of hazing Newsted, it resulted in an album that sounds much more dated these days than it probably should.

Even though tracks like “Harvester of Sorrow” and “One” haven’t left the band’s setlist for decades, And Justice for All serves as the perfect example of a great album with a lot of rough edges.
