10 Classic Music Albums Turning 20 In 2022

4. Up the Bracket - The Libertines

One of the biggest things to happen to rock music in the '00s was the garage rock revival era. Since the new school of rock and rollers had nothing to do but whine as nu metal and pop punk bands, the back to basics approach from acts like the Strokes and the Hives made us all collectively get over ourselves a little bit. Though the Strokes may have gotten things started, we were definitely in for a treat when we got a look at what the British garages were sounding like.

Compared to the disaffected sounds of Julian Casablancas, Up the Bracket was some of the most energetic garage rock to be made that century, fitting somewhere between the realm of pop music, old time rock and roll, and just the slightest dashes of punk rock dipped into the mix. And it's almost impossible that all of them work out so well, where you'll be singing along to a song like the Boy Looked At Johnny and then thrashing the place to the ground on the closer I Get Along.

Granted, a star that shined this bright wasn't going to survive the decade intact, with Pete Doherty and Carl Barat already starting to butt heads and barely assembling their next self titled album before imploding. For a few shining moments though, we may have been looking at the future of rock and roll.
