10 Classic Rock Albums That Changed Music Forever

3. Dark Side Of The Moon - Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd were easily one of the most innovative bands to come out of the classic rock period. While initially being lumped in with the psychedelic rock of the 60's, the band quickly went on to define modern day prog music with their expansive epics and complex instrumental orchestrations.

Though the band's middle period featured fantastic albums from the Wall to Animals, Dark Side of the Moon is the reason we're still talking about this band to this day. From the opening heartbeat to the final maniacal laughing of "Eclipse," this album truly takes you on a journey as it hopes to figure out the nature of why mankind acts the way it does.

It seems that every single instrument has a chance to display its full range, from the jawdropping solo of "Time" to the bass groove of "Money" to the barrage of sonic effects that permeate "On the Run." Even the wordless chants on "The Great Gig In The Sky" feature some of the most visceral vocals ever committed to tape. By pushing the limits of what a band could accomplish in the studio, Pink Floyd created a landmark album that sounds like it could have been recorded today.
