10 Classic Rock Albums That Got Better Over Time
2. Led Zeppelin III - Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin is one of the few bands that have come close to having a perfect career in the world of hard rock. Since the death of John Bonham put their studio career to a stop, the first slew of albums tend to have that golden sheen where everything seems to be in its right place. Out of the self titled saga though, Led Zeppelin III has always been known as the red headed stepchild of the group.
Although the album starts off with the Zeppelin classic Immigrant Song, you're not going to get the same amount of grit on the rest of the record, being much more downtempo and focusing more on the folksy side of the band's sound. That's probably enough to trigger alarm bells in the people who loved the hard hitting aspect of Zeppelin, but this has the same type of muscle...just in a different way.
After being soaked in the blues on their first few records, this is where we get hints of the more exotic side of their sound coming out, like the strange sounds of Gallows Pole or their delves into world music on a song like Friends. While this might show up last when ranking all of Zeppelin's self titled records, these were the songs that had to get made so we could listen to a song like Kashmir later down the line.
