10 Classic Rock Albums That Were AHEAD OF THEIR TIME

5. The Stooges - The Stooges

In the wake of acts like the Beatles and Zeppelin, fans were starting to think that there was more to rock and roll than just a simple song. This is a legitimate genre of music that could mean something a lot more, whether it be through sending a message or lulling you into a trance. While some may have tried the protesting route in 1969, it didn't hurt to settle for a little bit of anarchy either.

Compared to the garage rock bands that were making a name for themselves in the States at the time, The Stooges seemed to have crawled right out of the underworld, with Iggy Pop becoming one of the most chaotic frontmen to ever grace a stage. Across this record, you can hear the seeds of punk music as well, with songs like I Wanna Be Your Dog having that simple structure and nasty attitude that bands like the Ramones thrive on.

There are even moments where the songs decide to take you on some weird journeys, like the 9 minute We Will Fall, which feels like you've walked into a cult conducting a séance and are about to bring you in to sacrifice. Rock and roll was meant to bring joy into the world, but the Stooges were proof that it didn't hurt to dabble in darkness every once in a while.
