10 Classic Rock Artists That NEVER Sold Out

8. Motorhead

There have been plenty of bands who have relied on a certain formula to get them to where they are today. Even when they have to cower to the label pressures and make more commercial material, there's always a fleeting glance of that once badass band that we used to know. Instead of succumbing to pressures coming from their peers, Motorhead set the standard for everything hard rock with every single record.

Whereas every single member of the band made them who they are, the foundation of every Motorhead release comes from the solid right arm of Lemmy Kilmister, whose bass playing and whiskey soaked vocal delivery kept them running strong for half a century. From one album to the next, this power trio did whatever the hell they wanted to do, which normally came down to the same bluesy take on rock and roll that made us all fall in love with the genre to begin with.

Though the mainstream eventually gave them a hit with Ace of Spades, the entire back catalog of these guys is a crash course in what hard rock would become later down the line. As the band came to a close with the passing of Lemmy in 2015, Motorhead remains the one band who remained an aggressive punch in the face until they physically couldn't do it anymore.
