10 Classic Rock Bands Never Better Than Their First Album
8. Ozzy Osbourne
Ozzy Osbourne's career has been a bit disjointed to say the least. His work in Black Sabbath gave hard rock fans some of the most classic material in metal history, but things started to go off the rails as the band soldered on to records like Technical Ecstasy. After the band decided to kick Osbourne out, the Prince of Darkness went into the studio to show he wasn't done menacing the rock world.
With guitar god Randy Rhoads' assistance, Blizzard of Ozz was Ozzy's greatest achievement up to that point, with songs that brought subtle hints of light to his signature darkness. Though this album put many of Osbourne's detractors to shame, the initial magic of this album was not able to carry over to the rest of his catalog. The follow up with Rhoads on Diary of a Madman did have some stunning tracks on it, but Ozzy's propensity for classics quickly faded after Rhoads went down in a plane crash.
Osbourne's work since then has still been amazing, but there's no way a track like "No More Tears" can compare with the metal sheen of something like "Mr. Crowley." The records are all still great, but just a hair behind this glimpse of perfection.
