10 Classic Rock Bands Never Better Than Their First Album

6. George Harrison

It physically pains me to put an artist on this list who was in one of the biggest bands of all time... but here we are. When The Beatles first decided to call it a day in the late '60s, it seemed like such a shame since George Harrison was just starting to come into his own as a songwriter.

Determined to put out his own material, Harrison worked with legendary producer Phil Spector to create All Things Must Pass. Released shortly after the Fab Four's Let It Be, this record is filled to the brim with classic songs and was the first #1 album by a solo Beatle. The start of Harrison's career looked pretty fruitful, but as the years went by, the classics began to diminish.

While nothing in Harrison's back catalog could be considered bad by any stretch, albums like Dark Horse and Gone Troppo would have good moments but nothing as consistently great as the debut. Even when Harrison had returned to form albums like Cloud Nine, the quality of songs were good but were never able to outmatch the strength of songs like "My Sweet Lord" or "Beware of Darkness." George Harrison's solo career has a strong lineup of classics, but this may have been an instance where he put out all of his best material way too early.
