10 Classic Rock Bands Never Better Than Their First Album
4. Bad Company
In the early '70s, there was so much hype around Bad Company. Formed from the ashes of bands like Free and Mott the Hoople, the band were one of the first supergroups and were being talked up as the next big band after being signed to Led Zeppelin's Swan Song label. This first record had to impress... and by God it did.
Bad Company's self-titled debut is one of the greatest bluesy romps of the '70s, with songs that have Paul Rodgers reaching into the back of his throat to deliver some of the greatest vocal performances in rock. From "Movin On" to "Can't Get Enough" to the ominous title track, there is not a single dull moment across this track listing.
Given the title of this article, you might expect the band to fall on their face after this release, but their later records were still fairly decent, with hits like "Shooting Star" becoming classics in their own right. Though these songs were still fantastic, the band's later albums showed that this bluesy take on rock and roll was one of the only strings to their bow. They may have been really good at their sound, but in terms of classic rock essentials, Bad Company's debut is really the only one you need.
