10 Classic Rock Bands That Got Better After Selling Out
8. T Rex
You can't really talk about the glam rock movement of the '70s and not bring up T. Rex. The no frills attitude behind their classic tunes left a huge impact on everyone from peers like David Bowie to the hair metal scene that formed on the Sunset Strip in the '80's. The look may have been in your face, but the initial first steps from the band were much more stripped back.
Before he started slinging his classic Les Paul, frontman Marc Bolan originally formed Tyrannosaurus Rex as a meager folk outfit during the late 60's. There were some psychedelic elements added into the mix for sure, but the crux of the tunes was still far removed from the glitter scene. After a few years of moderate success, Bolan took the leap into more androgynous territory.
When many fans saw the cover of Electric Warrior, they knew that this music was something different. Instead of the acoustic style rock of years passed, Bolan had transformed himself into the next glam rock god, as he assaulted the audience with swaggering riffs like "Bang A Gong." The folk rock scene was a nice start, but the one way for Bolan to truly wow the crowd was to make his amp roar.
