10 Classic Rock Songs That Were Made Out Of Spite

3. Street Fighting Man - Oasis

You don't really need a doctorate in rock and roll music to tell that the Gallagher Brothers love their '60s rock. From the minute that you heard Liam Gallagher open his mouth on Supersonic, these guys were clearly taking their notes from the old guard of rock and roll like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. It's just a shame that their idols didn't really feel the same way towards them.

When Oasis were on top of the world in the '90s, they were shellshocked when they watched the test run of a documentary being made about them, with the Stones being interviewed about what they thought of the latest Britpop success stories. While Mick Jagger was a bit coy about his feelings, Keith Richards assessment of "they're crap" to the journalist whipped the Gallaghers into a fury, storming into Radio 1 and challenging the Stones to a scrap on the air.

That was just the start of the ugliness though. As much as Liam may have wanted to settle things with all guns blazing, Noel tried the more nuanced approach, trolling the Stones by releasing a cover of Street Fighting Man as one of the B-sides for their latest single that was about to drop. If anything, this probably taught the Gallaghers a valuable lesson about your musical ancestors. Even if they might not embrace your music, that doesn't mean that you can't still try to serve it right back at them.
