10 Classic Rock Songs That Were Made Out Of Spite
4. Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac
The entire pop rock genre has never run short on good breakup songs. As long as there has been relationships that have gone sour, people have put their emotions into song, wondering what they could have done differently to have their old flame back again. Considering Rumours was written at a time when everyone in Fleetwood Mac was breaking up with each other though, Go Your Own Way is the exact opposite of what you'd expect.
Instead of the normal songs of regret that we're used to, this is the kind of 'who needed you anyway' song from Lindsey Buckingham, lashing out at Stevie Nicks for not being there for him. At first, Lindsey didn't even want to sing the lyrics while Stevie was in the same room, before eventually laying out all of his dirty laundry in song by saying that loving her isn't the right thing to do. For all of the happy melodies on here though, this is a pretty harsh song to be singing to your ex in the band once you look at the lyrics a little closer.
Taking a look at that second verse, hearing him talking about how packing up and shacking up is all she wants to do is probably not the best way of putting that. Hell, it's a good thing you only put this in song, bud, because you'd get your ass kicked if you just came out and said some of this to her face.
