10 Classic Rock Songs That Were Written For Someone Else

2. Superstition - Stevie Wonder

There are probably only a handful of artists who come close to having the resume that Stevie Wonder has. While he may have started off as one of the most talented kids to hit the soul scene in the '60s, his classic period after breaking from his record contract is still some of the greatest music of the '70s, from Music of My Mind all the way to his grand opus Songs in the Key of Life. In between the classics though, one of Stevie's biggest hits was actually birthed out of a jam with a rock legend.

Outside of his traditional soul roots, Stevie could really rock when he wanted to, and Superstition came to life when he was working with guitar icon Jeff Beck, stemming out of a session when the two were trading licks back and forth. When Stevie started to flesh it out, he was originally thinking that Jeff would be able to knock the song out in no time, since the groove is so hypnotic for his traditional style.

Then again, when the song hits this hard, you know it's too good to let go, and Stevie reimagined it for Talking Book, playing almost all of the instruments and locking in on one of the meanest grooves that the pop charts had ever heard up until that point. No matter how many times Jeff Beck might play this song live, this record still belongs to Stevie.
