10 Classic Songs That Have Aged Terribly

1. Crawling - Linkin Park

In the vast sea of gray that was nu metal in the '00s, Linkin Park actually were the one band that managed to be fairly solid in their time. While there were some exceptional acts making the rounds at the time like Deftones, Linkin Park's knack for tortured songs like In the End and One Step Closer made Hybrid Theory one of the best selling albums of the entire decade, bringing nu metal to a much broader audience. When talking about nu metal though, you can never truly escape from the angst.

As much as something like Crawling has a decent enough melody to it, there's a good contingency of people who probably recognize this track for the memes that it has wrought than the actual music. Compared the usual pain felt on something like In the End, the performance by Chester Bennington is one of the more whiny in the history of nu metal, as he spews his venom about the wounds that won't heal around him.

It wouldn't be that much of a problem had Linkin Park not done this better in literally every other song on the album, from Runaway to Points of Authority. Given that Chester's final performances of this song were more subdued on their final tour, it's safe to say that we can permanently retire this kind of angst for good.
