3. Phil Collins Lends Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Some Street Cred
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XW0AhWoHP0w With an early career made up of songs about sex, violence and the harsh realities of life on the streets, Phil Collins was exactly the right person to bring a little cool back to the career of hip-hop collective Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. Where the group had previously recorded with the likes of Tupac, The Notorious B.I.G., Eazy-E and Big Pun, for their 2002 album Thug World Order they decided to take a different tack by teaming up with badly-oldy drum machine aficionado Collins for the single Home. We really can't think of much to say about this one. The video kind of speaks for itself, with the group rapping in various locations around their native Cleveland, decked out in the hip-hop clobber of the day (baggy trousers, chains, beanies), whilst Phil Collins just sort of stands around in the background until it's time to sing the refrain, with an expression that says "contractual obligations". It's really quite impressive that Collins can make such an impact with so little. For example, the part about halfway through the video where he puts on a baseball cap and bops his head to the beat for a few seconds manages to be the whitest thing ever committed to film.
