10 Crazy Last-Minute Changes To Famous Music Videos
3. Thriller - Michael Jackson
First of all, we can all agree Thriller is the greatest music video of all time. In fact, it can barely be called a music video because it’s more on the level of artistically brilliant short horror film. The production values, the story, the choreography, the costumes, the make up, the iconic imagery (Jackson’s werewolf cat eyes, anyone) – it’s all crafted brilliantly, not to mention Thriller itself is one of Michael Jackson’s best songs.
The absolute icing on the cake – Vincent Price. You know you’ve created a masterpiece of a horror-themed music video when it includes an experienced actor like Mr Price as part of your work. He is the voice behind the hauntingly theatrical monologue which occurs when the zombies emerge from the darkness. The scary cackle at the very end also belongs to Price and you can even see a cameo of the actor as a zombie at some point during the song.
But despite all the miraculous and thorough planning to create the Thriller masterpiece, Price had virtually no preparation for his narration because it was written hastily by Rod Temperton in the taxi on the way to the recording studio. But like a true professional, Vincent Price had no trouble performing the dialogue and managed to perfect it within his second take.
