Taking the biscuit as the Pixies' maddest song, 'Crackity Jones' is based on a roommate Black Francis was living with as part of an exchange trip. The roommate's rants grated on him, and his weird nature scared Black Francis, which is presented in the song in various lines: 'You need these walls for your own' 'chasing voices he receives in his head' and 'I'm afraid you'll cut me boy'. The location of Francis' exchange is portrayed as a 'stinking island', and his general disdain and disgust comes across emotionally in Francis' vocal snarl. The song is driven at a maddening beat as well, reflecting the subject matter, and is the shortest of Pixies songs. With crazy subject matter and a speedy pace, 'Crackity Jones' is, I think, well deserved for the title of Maddest Pixies Song.
