10 Crucial Punk Rock Bands Currently Active
1. Alternative Punk - Green Day
St Jimmy's brains are floating somewhere in the bay (figuratively speaking), Christian hooked up with the last of the American girls and, yes, nothing says F you more than a unicorn.
Green Day, everyone's favourite band to say 'sold out', are the best band currently active in the world of punk. To not call the Californian trio so would be, quite frankly, sacrilegious. A bad Green Day album, is still a big deal. A great Green Day album, is a supernova in the world of music.
It's easy to forget that Green Day found themselves in limbo towards the end of the 90s, long since out dropping off the tidal wave success of 1994 staple Dookie. Every album the group released for the next 10 years was solid, if not awesome, but it still wasn't Dookie.
Then American Idiot dropped. The rock opera that forever cemented Green Day's place atop of the alternative industry. Originally planning to release an album called Cigarettes & Valentines, master recordings of the album were stolen, Green Day set about crafting a new sound for the band. All three members had a hand in crafting the initial album tracks via 30 second compositions, connected together to create two feature length masterpieces that came to be known as 'Jesus of Suburbia' and 'Homecoming'.
Post-American Idiot, the band have released a further six studio albums, taking their overall total to thirteen and show little sign of calling it quits, continuing to fly the flag of punk rock, seemingly forever.
