10 Current Bands Keeping Nu Metal Music Alive
5. DED
This Tempe, Arizona-based group are a 100% nu metal outfit. Formed out of members of both metalcore crew Greeley Estates and rock outfit Man Made Machine, DED exploded onto the scene back in 2017 with the release of their debut LP, Mis•an•thrope.
DED frequently sport a powerful, guitar-driven sound that is often accentuated by both intense bass lines and syncopated drum beats. Their lyrics, meanwhile, often tie into the intensely emotional vibes and angst of nu metal icons such as Korn. The group have fearlessly charged through societal issues, personal struggles, and the threat of inner demons.
Lead vocalist Joe Cotela has showcased great versatility during his time with the group, powerfully shifting between melodic singing and fierce screaming to lend another dynamic element to their sound. The group have also dabbled in industrial to further enhance their music’s atmospheric qualities.
Unsurprisingly, DED’s largely old school nu metal sound has proven to be a hit with fans of the genre. From headbanging to the unrelenting riffs, to screaming along to the hard-hitting lyrics, the group have firmly established a cult following over the years.
