10 Current Bands Keeping Nu Metal Music Alive

3. Sylar

This hyperactive pack of New Yorkers have successfully carved a unique niche for themselves thanks to their hectic take on the nu metal style. A defining aspect of the group’s nu stylings lies in their complementary blend of rumbling bass lines with aggressive guitar riffs and furious drums.

In stark contrast to the heavy-duty instrumentals, the band often seamlessly interlace more melodic hooks and choruses with the otherwise hard-hitting audio assault on offer.

Like many of the great nu metal outfits before them, Sylar have often demonstrated a keen ear for infusing rap-styled vocals into their tracks. The rap-infused delivery comes in a musical cocktail with both more melodically sung vocals and ear-piercing screamo. The unpredictable vocal delivery provides the group with an impressive emotional range, covering everything from rage and frustration to catharsis and vulnerability into a single track.

Like many of the more recent groups to add to the revival of nu metal, Sylar are known to give their music a more contemporary sound via the use of electronic textures. By experimenting in this direction with their music, they've managed to help expand the already wide sonic palette of nu metal, helping to forge their own fresh identity and presence within it.
