10 Decent Albums With Way Too Much Filler

6. Hail to the Thief - Radiohead

There's a good chance that any of Radiohead's albums could be called classics at this point. Despite the lukewarm reception that people still have towards Pablo Honey all these years later, you can feel free to jump into any Radiohead record and walk away satisfied. Then again, if you're just starting to get into the band, Hail to the Thief makes for a little bit more than you may have bargained for.

Recorded during the mid '00s after the creative sessions that spawned both Kid A and Amnesiac, Hail to the Thief really feels like the band rediscovering their love of making music. Though this leads to some pretty interesting songs like Go To Sleep and the massive opener 2+2=5, the actual execution is far more scattered than any other Radiohead record, which leads to experiments like Backdrifts set against something like There There.

It doesn't really help that the slipshot delivery comes from the fact that the band had actually recorded this the quickest out of all their albums, done in LA over just a couple of weeks. Even when looking back, Thom Yorke isn't in love with the way it turned out, thinking it would have made for a better listening experience if they toned down the track listing. Given that this is the longest Radiohead record to date, it's a shame it ended up being middle of the road by comparison.
