10 Most Depressing Songs Of All Time

7. She's Lost Control - Joy Division

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVc29bYIvCM "Confusion in her eyes that says it all. She's lost control. And she's clinging to the nearest passerby. She's lost control again" Classic gloom mongering song from Joy Division which appeared and was recorded several times from 1978-1981 and showed up in their seminal album Unknown Pleasures. The title of the song was referred to in the film biopic of Joy Division singer Ian Curtis which was entitled Control. Everything is the song - the bass, drums and guitar are minimalist and Curtis tells a story of a young woman having an epileptic fit (Curtis himself suffered epilepsy and lived in terror of his fits) and how powerless and confused it leaves her. When I first heard the song many moons ago, I thought it was a tale of a woman having a psychotic breakdown, because the words perfectly describe that experience, but no, the song is about epilepsy. She's Lost Control is a dark and despairing song. If that is the way Curtis himself felt about epilepsy, he must have been in Hell. It remains one of Joy Division's most popular songs (along with Love Will Tear Us Apart and Transmission - both of which could have rightly taken up place on this list). This eerie song will make you feel disturbed after listening to it.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
