10 Disturbing Songs You Hear Then Never Forget

6. Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath

A lot of controversial rock music from the 20th Century hasn't aged well. It's easy to look back at bands singing about demons and the devil and make them an object of ridicule. However while there were plenty of artists singing about these subjects and adopting the iconography of this scene purely for business reasons, it is still undeniably unnerving to listen to music that you can tell believes in the nightmarish topics it's built around.

The song Black Sabbath released by the band Black Sabbath on the album Black Sabbath is a great example of this. The song was apparently inspired by the band's guitarist, who was heavily into the occult at the time, who saw a black, shadowy figure at the foot of his bed after waking in the middle of the night.

The song itself reflects this incident, covering the subject being beckoned by a dark figure with fire in his eyes. Decades on from the satanic panic, the song remains a disturbing portrait of a waking nightmare, but you can imagine just how much this terrified those genuinely worried the Devil was seducing their children at the time of its release.
