10 Easy Guitar Riffs (That Don't Appear On Other Lists)
4. Breaking The Law - Judas Priest
As a genre, heavy metal is often renowned for incredibly difficult riffs and solos, as well as intricate passages and song structures. "Breaking The Law" from Judas Priest's sixth studio album "British Steel", however, proves an exception to this rule, as it features a straightforward song structure, as well as an easy riff that is equal parts marvellous and compelling. One of the band's most well known songs, "Breaking The Law" is also one of the most accessible heavy metal tracks for those who are not familiar with the genre, as it's clear structure and mild overall sound set it apart from other, heavier songs.
The main riff is constructed from the A Minor Pentatonic scale; effectively simple and quite different from the high tempo flurry of notes that other heavy metal riffs seem to be upon first hearing. As for the rest of the song, the verses and bridge sections consist of simple power chord passages that provide some variety and absorbing deviations from the main song. When played together, the song is a fast paced, dynamic track that never loses it's adrenaline or spirit. Insanely catchy and energetic, "Breaking The Law" has the potential to serve as a perfect gateway to the heavy metal genre for a beginner guitarist.
