10 Even More Perfect 1990s Rock Albums With No Bad Songs
7. Metallica - Metallica
It may seem a little odd to make your fifth studio album a self-titled effort, but then Metallica have never particularly been your regular, normal band.
Released in 1991, the album dubbed Metallica - often referred to as The Black Album - saw the band somewhat tweak their style. Rather than the heavy, fast and intense output seen so frequently across the group's previous four albums, Metallica found the band moving more towards the softer, deeper, chugging, admittedly more radio friendly sound that would bring them huge success in the '90s and beyond.
This was Metallica entering the sort of mainstream territory that would see them grow into an international behemoth capable of selling out stadiums across the globe.
Enter Sandman is the obvious standout track of this '91 record, becoming a true rock anthem that handily outgrew just the standard rock scene. Tracks like The Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters, and Holier Than Thou added to the mindset that this was a band who were maturing before our ears, adeptly managing to pierce the mainstream conscience whilst also still being able to appeal to the die-hard thrash metalheads who'd supported them for the past ten years.
