Ever since he rose to prominence as the lead guitarist of Guns N' Roses, Slash has earned a reputation as one of the most iconic guitar players of all time.

As well as his tumultuous tenure in the famous group, Slash has also lent his talents to the work of various other artists, but perhaps none more famously than his collaborations with the legendary pop artist Michael Jackson.

Slash first joined Jackson in the studio in 1991 during the recording of MJ's eighth album, Dangerous. Performing lead guitar duties on the song Give In to Me and also contributing some guitar to the opening skit for the music video of Black or White.

But what about the guitar in Black or White itself?

The distinctive choppy guitar hook has often been attributed as the work of Slash, presumably because of his playing in the music video, but it is actually American producer Bill Bottrell that performed the songs signature lick.

Slash cleared up the confusion in a 2010 interview stating his opinion on the iconic riff:

"I did not play on [Black or White]. That's gay, I would never play that."
