8. Noel Gallagher
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6m03FUYaTM Say what you like about Noel Gallagher but as Oasis songwriter-in-chief, he has earned his place in rock musics pantheon. This accolade was done and dusted as early as the mid-1990s after stellar 1994 release Definitely Maybe was joined by the anthemic (Whats The Story) Morning Glory?, the following year. Both were derivative but also vehemently life-affirming and infectious, making everything that followed sound half-baked and unfulfilling in comparison. And finally, after re-hashing these fabulous records for the umpteenth time, Noel quit the band in 2009 after a heated fight with band vocalist and beloved brother, Liam, an occurrence highly uncharacteristic of both usually mild-mannered siblings. Noel Gallaghers High Flying Birds, his new moniker, unveiled its debut album in 2011. Barely a departure from the sound that made him famous (some songs were even written during his Oasis tenure), it proved a collection of enjoyable tracks that provided mourning Oasis fans a second taste of their spiritual hero and cured the ears of everyone who had been unfortunate enough to hear what Beady Eye had been up to.
Worth the (solo) effort? Try as he might, Noel will never recapture the mercurial song-writing that made early Oasis so memorable. A tad unfair, some might may, but the truth nonetheless.
