10 Famous Pop Songs You Didn't Realise Were Covers

7. Something Stupid - Frank And Nancy Sinatra

Carson and Gaile, a husband-and-wife duo consisting of C. Carson Parks and Gaile Foote, wrote Something Stupid for their 1966 record, San Antonio Rose.

The song remained in relative obscurity until 1967, when Parks’ played the song to a member of Frank Sinatra’s management. Sinatra then played the song to his daughter Nancy’s producer, who suggested they recorded the song together.

The song was a critical and commercial success, spending four weeks atop the US Billboard Hot 100 and similarly topping the charts in the UK too. However, it did draw criticism for the seemingly romantic lyrics being sung by a father-and-daughter duo.

Somethin’ Stupid has been covered numerous times since the Sinatra’s' version, most notably by English singer Robbie Williams and Australian singer-actress Nicole Kidman. This version achieved the enviable feat of becoming 2001’s UK Christmas number 1.
