10 Flawless Live Albums In Rock Music

5. 9.0 Live - Slipknot

Anyone who's ever been to a Slipknot show probably has a few scars to show for it. Who are we kidding here? If you ever go to a show by the Knot and you come out unscathed, it's practically a failed gig. That's just the actual experience though. When you transfer that onto tape, 9.0 Live turns into the sounds of Hell.

Being one of the first live DVDs that they put out after the release of Vol. III, this feels like Slipknot were about to enter their final form, making songs that were accessible to the fairweather metal fans before snapping you right back into heavier territory. Since they knew that the microphones would be picking up every note that night, Clown has said that they wanted to give 115% in lieu of the standard 110, and you can tell from the sounds of Corey's wails across songs like Left Behind and Pulse of the Maggots.

You also have to keep in mind that this was the era before Snuff became the song to ease the tension during Slipknot shows. There's no breaks during this time, and you'd better be prepared once you're thrown into the chaos from one track to the next. If the sounds of Vol. III made you skeptical about what was on the horizon, the Maggots didn't have to worry about their favorite band losing their touch or anything.
