10 Forgotten 1970s Punk Albums You Need To Hear

6. Panic – 13 (1978)

Panic were among numerous early European punk bands who would likely have found wider success rather than near-total obscurity had they been based in New York, LA, or London. Despite releasing their album on gimmicky red vinyl and singing in English, this band from Amsterdam, Netherlands is now often overlooked.

There is still a strong vein of earlier 70s rock running throughout, unavoidably making it feel like it still has one foot in the pre-punk era as well as strongly suggesting these guys had likely come from a more rock-oriented background before switching gear to the new punk sounds. However, their slightly retro vibe is entwined competently enough with the more aggressive approach of punk, and the 13 songs here (there is also a song entitled 13, hence the album title) could still have fit in easily with the early London scene. But it was not to be, and they are now possibly the most obscure entry included on this list.

Two songs from the record were re-released as a 7” single in 1980, with the lyrics and song titles in Dutch, and that was their final release.
