10 Forgotten 80s Bands Worth Rediscovering

5. Win

Those of a certain age will remember Scottish band Win for their memorable musical accompaniment to an equally memorably '80s advert for McEwan's Lager. That tune, You've Got The Power, gained Win plenty of attention, and was followed by two further singles which, while they both made the charts in the band's native UK, failed to translate into lasting success.

Win was initially formed by guitarist Davy Henderson and Russell Burn on keys, following the collapse of their previous band, The Fire Engines (who could also have made this list), Alongside Henderson and Burns were Ian Stoddart on drums, Emmanuel Shoniwa and Simon Smeeton on guitars, and Karl Mariner on keys. Win released two albums during their short life-time, 1987's Uh! Tears Baby and 1989's Freaky Trigger, the latter of which failed to chart, signalling the band's demise.

While unmistakably of their era, Win had plenty more to offer besides the radio-friendly vibes of You've Got The Power. This was a band with an abundance of ideas, willing to explore eclectic territories without ever losing sight of a hook.
